HOW TO MEASURE YOURSELF FOR THE SUIT

Jacket Measurements

1. Chest

Stand up straight and hold the measuring tape around your chest at nipple level. Wrap it under your armpits and across your shoulder blades. This gives the measurement of your chest at its widest point.

For women, take two measurements:

  1. Over-chest – Measure as described above, around the fullest part of the chest.
  2. Under-chest – Wrap the tape around the chest just below the bust, where a bra usually ends.

2. Stomach

Measure around the widest part of your abdomen, usually at belly button level. Keep the tape straight and level. Make sure not to suck in your stomach, or the measurement will be inaccurate.

3. Jacket Length

Measure vertically from where the back of the shirt meets the collar seam down to your desired waistcoat length. This is usually from the lower back to the top of the seat.

4. Shoulders

Measure across the top of your back from the tip of one shoulder to the tip of the other. The tape should follow the natural curve of your upper back, not be perfectly straight. If you're unsure where the shoulder tips are, you can measure between the shoulder seams of a well-fitting shirt.

5. Sleeve Length

Keep your arm relaxed at your side and measure from where the shoulder seam meets the top of your arm down to your desired length. Typically, this is at the base of your thumb where it meets your wrist.

6. Neck

Measure around your neck where your collar would sit. If you're unsure of the exact spot, wear a well-fitting shirt to guide you.

7. Hip

Measure from where the shoulder seam meets the collar seam to your desired jacket length, which for men is usually around the wrist/base of the thumb.

 8. Bicep

Bend your arm at a 90-degree angle and measure around the widest part of your bicep.

Trouser Measurements

1. Trouser Waist

Measure around your waist at the height where you prefer to wear your pants, which may be different from your natural waist. Keep the tape snug but not too tight. If you're unsure, wear a pair of well-fitting trousers and measure around the waistband where they sit.

2. Hips

Measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat (bum). Stand with your feet hip-width apart, ensuring your pockets are empty and the tape is level and untwisted. The tape should be snug but not tight—you should just barely feel it against your body.

3. Crotch / Rise

Place the end of the tape measure at the top of your waistband in the front, where the central button is. Keeping the tape straight and untwisted, pass it through your legs and measure up to the top of the waistband at the back. It helps to wear well-fitting trousers to ensure you allow enough room in the crotch.

4. Trouser length / Out-seam

Measure vertically from the top of where you want your trouser waist to sit, down along the side seam to your desired length. This is usually about 3 cm above the ground. For accuracy, you can wear a pair of trousers that fit well and/or the shoes you plan to wear with the suit.

6. Thigh

Measure around the widest part of your thigh, which is usually near the top of the inseam but may be slightly lower depending on your body shape. Keep the tape snug but not too tight.
